Story

Holistic Pregnancy and Wellness Services (HPW) a 501c3 Non-Profit organization, that provides services to significantly reduce the rate of maternal/fetal deaths in minority communities. In the United States, there are more than 700 women who die during or following childbirth due to conditions such as a pulmonary embolism a high blood pressure, weakened heart muscle, etc. Among these women, the rates are significantly higher for African American Women and Women of Color. HPW plans to provide complete education on the diseases that are specific to Black Women, African American Women, and Women of Color. HPW will provide access to resources to reduce the mortality rate in minority communities. In addition to our wellness services, we plan to address and offer resources to help prevent and treat postpartum depression (PPD).

Shieniece Hubbard, Co-Founder & Executive Director, Holistic Pregnancy and Wellness Services (HPW-Services)

is a self-less, empathetic and Licensed Professional Counselor who is focused on decreasing maternal and infant mortality rates. “I love what we do, the lives we impact and the families we serve at HPW-Services.” From an early age, Shieniece’s dream was to work in OBGYN and Mental-Health, therefore she earned her Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University and her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Winston-Salem University. Her extensive 20+ year career in the medical field includes surgical experience with 6 Hospitals/Surgical Centers.

While working at Mt. Carmel East, Shieniece met Carol Thomas, Co-Founder of HPW-Services. “Carol and I worked together in the same unit at Mt. Carmel and discovered we had mutual interests, dreams and desires to launch a nonprofit organization to serve minority women and to be a voice for them before, during and after childbirth. HPW-Services officially launched on January 3, 2022, and provides a litany of resources and services including Mental Health Counseling, Doula Services, Prenatal Education, Lactation Counseling, Nutrition Counseling, Massage Therapy and Respite Care. “We welcome clients at any stage of pregnancy, but the earlier the better!”

As a driven and passionate person who is fun to be around, Shieniece Hubbard is thriving when she is engaging with families, seeing healthy babies delivered and impacting lives. “I often hear from clients who say that without our advice, wisdom and support they are not sure how they would have gotten through their pregnancy. Our clients know that we are their family, outside of family!”

Carol Thomas, Co-Founder/President Holistic Pregnancy and Wellness Services (HPW-Services)

has been dedicated to Women’s Health for two decades and is driven to serve women authentically and passionately. Born and raised in Columbus, OH, Carol was fascinated with the idea of being a Midwife going as far back as the 1st Grade. Carol earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The Ohio State University and her Masters in Women’s Health/Midwifery from California State University, Fullerton. Currently, Carol is attending Ohio University to earn her Doctor of Nursing with an anticipated graduation date of May 2027. During Carol’s extensive career in Women’s Health, she has worked in Labor & Delivery and in the Intensive Care Unit as a Registered Nurse/Certified Nurse Midwife. “I have delivered over 3,500 babies and I love being part of the process of bringing life into this world. Since I could not have children, this is my way to feel included and connected to the birthing miracle.”

While working at Mt. Carmel East, Carol met Shieniece Hubbard, Co-Founder/Executive Director of HPW-Services and they discovered their mutual desire to provide education, resources and care to Brown/Black Women throughout the entire pregnancy journey, from pre-conception, pregnancy, delivery and postpartum care in order to decrease the mortality rates. “Postpartum depression is real and we serve as a client’s support system as they navigate Motherhood.” HPW-Services is built on a foundation of impactful, inclusive, authentic and reputable Women’s Reproductive Healthcare. “We offer services under one roof and include Prenatal Education, Doula Services, Mental-Health Counseling, Massage Therapy, Nutrition Education and Respite Care. Throughout our client’s journey, they become part of the HPW-Services family!”

Carol Thomas is personable, relatable, calm and a woman of her word. She listens to her clients with patience and empathy and provides answers and information in a manner that is helpful and easy to understand. “God placed Shieniece in my life at the right time, so we could launch HPW-Services to serve and save women and babies. Everyday I feel blessed for the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of others. Although my mother passed in March 2026, everything I do is for her. She taught me well!”
